Newborn and Infant Care
Thorough, gentle care through pregnancy and the first months of life, for both baby and parent.
Newborn & Infant Care
The first weeks with a new baby bring more questions than answers. Feeding, weight gain, sleep, unfamiliar sounds and sudden worries all arrive at once, often in the middle of the night.
Dr Angela Colquhoun offers thorough, gentle care through this stage, supporting both baby and parent from the very first days, and often from before the birth itself.
Does Dr Angela Attend Deliveries?
When requested, Dr Angela attends newborn deliveries to provide specialist care from the very first moments of life. This includes newborn resuscitation and stabilisation where required, a full post-delivery assessment, and ongoing care during the neonatal period.
After Birth
What Happens After Birth?
Newborn and infant assessments cover feeding support, growth and developmental monitoring, routine health checks and guidance for parents finding their feet. Concerns such as jaundice, reflux, colic, poor weight gain, feeding difficulties, infections and congenital conditions are all assessed carefully, with growth, nutrition and digestive health support where needed.

How Should I Prepare For My First Few Weeks?
Many parents find it useful to have a plan in place before the birth, from who to call with questions to what a normal newborn day looks like. These practical details are covered during antenatal consultations, so they do not have to be worked out for the first time in the middle of the night. Having that groundwork in place tends to make the early weeks feel far less overwhelming.

What Happens During Antenatal Visits?
Welcoming a new baby is an exciting time, often accompanied by many questions and uncertainties. Antenatal consultations give expectant parents and caregivers the chance to meet Dr Angela before the baby's arrival, build a relationship, and talk through any concerns in a relaxed, unhurried setting.
During this consultation, you can discuss:
- 1Preparing for your newborn's arrival
- 2Infant feeding options, including breastfeeding, formula feeding and combination feeding
- 3Newborn care and what to expect in the first few weeks of life
- 4Any medical concerns or family history that may affect your baby's care
- 5Your own questions and preferences for your baby's healthcare journey
The aim is to help you feel informed, reassured and ready for what comes next.
