Appointments and Consultations
How do I book an appointment?
Call the practice on 012 367 4434 to arrange a consultation. Practice hours are Monday to Thursday, 08:00 to 19:00, and Friday, 08:00 to 14:00.
Do I need a referral from another doctor?
No referral is needed to see Dr Angela.
How long does a consultation usually take?
Consultations generally take around 30 minutes.
Can I request an urgent or same-day appointment?
Yes. Call as early in the day as possible, and the practice will help where it can.
What should I do if my child becomes ill after hours?
Take your child to casualty. Dr Angela is on call after hours during the week, and the casualty doctor will contact her if your child needs to be admitted. On weekends, three doctors assist in her place: Dr Jana Bloem and Dr Meghann Grey, both at Zuid-Afrikaans Hospital, and Dr Liesl Nieuwoudt at Steve Biko Academic Hospital.
What happens if we need to cancel or reschedule?
Please contact the practice at least 24 hours in advance.
Which medical aids does the practice accept?
The practice is contracted with Discovery, Momentum, Fedhealth, GEMS and Polmed, although some consultations may still require a co-payment. It is worth checking your specific plan and benefits before your visit, since these can vary between options within the same medical aid.
Newborns and Routine Care
When should my newborn have their first check-up?
At two weeks old.
How often should my baby or child have a routine check-up?
At two weeks, six weeks, twelve weeks, six months, nine months, one year, fifteen months, eighteen months and two years, then yearly from there.
Illness and Warning Signs
When should I take my child to a paediatrician?
An assessment is important if your child has a persistent or high fever, breathing difficulty, poor feeding, repeated vomiting, dehydration, unusual sleepiness, severe pain, seizures, a concerning rash, poor growth, developmental regression or recurrent infections.
If you are unsure whether a symptom warrants a visit, it is generally better to call and check rather than wait it out. For severe breathing difficulty, blue discolouration, unresponsiveness, a prolonged seizure or any other life-threatening emergency, go straight to your nearest emergency department.
